Sanlorenzo at Venice Climate Week

During the first edition of Venice Climate Week (3 – 8 June 2025), Sanlorenzo reaffirms its commitment to a more sustainable future by participating as the Main Partner in a project that places Venice at the heart of an international dialogue on climate change, innovation, and regenerative economic models.

The new event in Italy to celebrate World Environment Day and World Oceans Day, conceived and directed by Riccardo Luna in collaboration with the Future Food Institute, is an international week dedicated to climate change, sustainability, and new models of regenerative economy, aimed at restarting a dialogue among institutions, citizens, businesses, activists, scientists, and artists.

Sanlorenzo’s participation stems from a clear vision: to make yachting increasingly environmentally friendly through concrete actions and cutting-edge technologies. Among these is the innovative project for the development of the first green methanol bi-fuel propulsion system, which by 2027 will lead to the launch of the 50X-Space, superyacht capable of reducing navigation emissions by up to 70%.

50 X-Space

This project is part of Sanlorenzo’s ‘Road to 2030’ strategy, during which the shipyard has already taken significant steps towards sustainability with the launch of two revolutionary models: 50Steel, the world’s first superyacht equipped with a Fuel Cell system fuelled by hydrogen reformed directly on board from green methanol to generate electricity, used to power the hotellerie services, and Bluegame’s BGH-HSV (Hydrogen Support Vessel), the first chase boat powered exclusively by hydrogen, achieving zero emissions.

On 3 June, during Venice Climate Week, the Sanlorenzo will open Casa Sanlorenzo, a new cultural hub designed by Piero Lissoni in the heart of the lagoon city. Not only a symbol of the brand’s philosophy of art, design, and innovation, Casa Sanlorenzo will also serve as one of the official venues of the event, hosting the ‘Sanlorenzo Talks’, a series of meetings and conversations focused on ecological transition and sustainable innovation, featuring prominent stakeholders from the scientific, cultural, and industrial fields.

The event will host around 100 national and international speakers, including Massimo Perotti, Executive Chairman Sanlorenzo, who commented: “Being a partner in the first edition of Venice Climate Week is an important step for us, consistent with the industrial vision we are pursuing: an innovation that puts sustainability at the centre. With the 50Steel and the BGH-HSV projects, launched in 2024, and 50X-Space planned for 2027 with bi-fuel propulsion, we have taken and continue to take decisive steps towards the goal of a zero-emission yacht. We want to share this journey with those who, like us, believe that the future of yachting should be more conscious, technological and environmentally respectful.”

Sanlorenzo’s involvement in Venice Climate Week complements its participation in the Venice Boat Show, from 30 May – 2 June, where the 50Steel will be showcased, underscoring its tangible move towards more conscious yachting.

For Sanlorenzo, sustainability is not just a statement of intent but a concrete industrial strategy, integrated at every level of production, from design to technological innovation, to the selection of collaborations and supported events. Venice Climate Week is therefore the natural setting to share this vision and contribute to the global debate on the planet’s future.

Sanlorenzo UK and Howden host a musical masterpiece

Last week (3 April) saw an unprecedented celebration of classical music and artisan craftsmanship in central London.

Hosted by Sanlorenzo Yachts UK and Howden Private Clients at the Minotti London showroom, the evening brought together a distinguished audience for a rare and extraordinary performance.

A truly priceless musical interlude unfolded as two remarkable Stradivarius violins, in the hands of the world-renowned violinists Tomo Keller and Andrew Bernardi, played together for the first time.

Two men in blue suits playing violins

Crafted over three centuries ago by the legendary Italian luthier Antonio Stradivari, these historic instruments – though visually distinct – demonstrated their unparalleled ability to project with power and clarity, commanding attention to be heard above the force of a full orchestra.

Set against Minotti’s exquisitely curated backdrop on Margaret Street, the intimate gathering was immersed in the exceptional tonal nuances and dynamic range that define these rare musical masterpieces.

Nick Hatfield, Managing Director at Sanlorenzo Yachts UK, reflected on the profound connection between Stradivari’s craftsmanship and Sanlorenzo’s legacy of yacht building:

“For over 60 years, Sanlorenzo has exemplified the finest Italian craftsmanship in luxury yacht building. Just as every Sanlorenzo yacht is a singular work of art, with its own story to tell, each Stradivarius violin is uniquely crafted, with a sound and character as distinctive as the instrument itself.”

With only 650 Stradivarius violins believed to exist today, these instruments are among the rarest in the world. Their preservation is paramount, yet their true essence is realised only through performance.

People seated on sofas watching a man give a speech

Charlie Jenkins, Head of Asset Finance at SPF Private Clients, Part of Howden, emphasised the delicate balance between preservation and use:

“Instruments of this calibre must not only be safeguarded – they should be played. The relationship between violin and violinist is symbiotic: the more an instrument is played, the more it develops its voice, enriching both its sound and the artist’s interpretation of the music.”

Despite their historical and artistic significance, Stradivarius violins remain financially out of reach for many of the world’s most gifted musicians. It is only through philanthropy and dedicated patronage that these rare instruments continue to grace the global stage – a challenge Howden is committed to addressing.

Jenkins unveiled a vision close to the heart of Howden as the leading insurance broker for fine instruments:

“We understand the profound impact that an instrument can have on a musician’s career. Our vision is to ensure that exceptional violins, like those played by Tomo and Andrew, are brought out of storage and placed in the hands of talented artists. Achieving this goal will require the support of philanthropists and investors, and we are confident that Howden, given our market position, can lead this initiative. Our aim is to ensure these instruments continue to inspire and transform the lives of the finest musicians of their generation.”

The evening at Minotti was more than a performance – it was a testament to the enduring legacy of craftsmanship, and the importance of preserving musical and artistic excellence for generations to come.

Sanlorenzo has finalised its 2024 financials with record-breaking results, confirming significant growth in revenue and profitability.

These impressive numbers were released following its board meeting on 10 March 2025, where the company’s board of directors also outlined the firm’s 2025 guidance, which reflects continued growth despite economic and geopolitical uncertainties.

Key Highlights from 2024 results:

  • Net revenues from new yacht sales hit €930.4 million, up 10.7% from 2023.
  • EBITDA increased 12% year-on-year to €176.4 million, with a 19% margin on new yacht sales.
  • EBIT rose by 10.6% to €139.3 million, maintaining a 15% margin.
  • Group net profit reached €103.1 million, exceeding the company’s guidance range of €99-101m and growing 11.1% over the previous year.

Strong Performance and Future Growth

Sanlorenzo’s 2024 performance was boosted by demand for its latest yacht models and a growing international presence. The Americas region showed a significant rebound, contributing 15.8% of total revenue (up from 11% in 2023), while the Middle East and Africa grew to 13.1% of revenue (up from 9.3%).

New models like the SP92, SL86-Asymmetric, and the SD132 — Sanlorenzo’s first composite yacht over 40-metres — helped drive growth in the yacht division. The superyacht division also saw growth driven by the Steel line, particularly the 50Steel HER (Hidden Engine Room) model. The Bluegame division remained stable despite ‘challenging conditions’ in the sub-24-metre segment.

Healthy Backlog and Confident 2025 Outlook

Sanlorenzo ended the year with an order backlog of €1.02 billion, with 88% of orders coming from final clients. Of this, €623.1 million is scheduled for 2025, while €396.7m relates to subsequent years, providing long-term revenue visibility. The order intake for the fourth quarter of 2024 reached €230.2m, an 11% increase over the same period in 2023.

Looking ahead, Sanlorenzo’s guidance anticipates net revenues of between €960 million and €1.02 billion in new yacht sales in 2025 — a projected increase of around 6%. EBITDA is forecasted to reach between €178 million and €194 million, with EBIT expected to land between €139 million and €149 million.

Commitment to Sustainability and Innovation

In addition to financial performance, Sanlorenzo approved its 2024 Consolidated Sustainability Report, marking its first structured reporting under Italian Legislative Decree No. 125, which transposes the European Union’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) into Italian law.

Massimo Perotti, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Company, commented:

“In 2024, we delivered significant strategic milestones, surpassing €100 milion net profit threshold, around four times higher compared to 2019, as proof of the effectiveness of our long-term vision. We proudly confirm the complete realisation of our objectives with record results, the consolidation of our direct distribution network and entry into the sailing yacht segment.

“The Group’s solid financial position alows us to continue investing in growth and consolidating our leadership in the most profitable and resilient market segments. Today’s presentation of the 2025 Guidance, in the current macroeconomic and geopolitical environment, reflects a journey of continued sustainable progress. This trajectory is further strengthened by the evolution of our industrial model, leveraging strategic acquisitions that continue to enhance the appeal of our product range.

“These important milestones further differentiate our unique positioning as a global icon of ‘beauty made-to-measure’, seamlessly combined with cutting-edge technological expertise, within a solid and well-established business model aimed at gradual and sustainable growth over the medium-long term.”

“In line with our ‘Road to 2030’ strategy, our spirit of innovation continues to permeate every aspect of the Group’s activities, from concept design to cutting-edge technological solutions, guiding a strategic path that reflects the company’s ambitions and vision as a pioneer in sustainable yachting technologies.

“We look to the future with confidence, focusing on the execution of our projects while leveraging the values that have always distinguished us: desirability, scarcity, and true sustainable luxury, supported by a strong drive for innovation that remains faithful to the brand’s heritage.”

Key events and milestones in 2024

On 1 August 2024, Sanlorenzo signed a binding agreement for the acquisition of 100% of Nautor Swan, including its subsidiaries within the acquisition perimeter (the ‘Nautor Swan Group’). The Nautor Swan Group consists of 13 companies operating in seven countries (Finland, Italy, Spain, Monaco, UK, USA, and Australia) and is primarily engaged in the design, construction, marketing, and refit of luxury sailing yachts under the Swan, Maxi Swan, and ClubSwan brands, as well as motor yachts under the Shadow and Arrow brands.

When it comes to technological innovation, three yachts launched in 2024 stand as concrete examples of Sanlorenzo Group’s innovative spirit, each marking significant milestones: the 50Steel by Sanlorenzo, the world’s first superyacht equipped with a Reformer Fuel Cell system capable of converting green methanol into hydrogen and then into electricity to power all onboard hotellerie services, without the need to store hydrogen on board. The BGH-HSV by Bluegame, a foil-assisted chase boat with exclusively hydrogen-powered, zero-emission propulsion, which supported the American Magic and Orient Express teams during the America’s Cup. The Swan 88 DreamCatcher, which won the Eco Award at the BOAT International Design & Innovation Awards for its advanced diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system.

In terms of partnerships and ongoing projects, in January 2025, Sanlorenzo signed a partnership with MAN for the development of the first bi-fuel propulsion system using green methanol. This system will be installed on the new 50 X-Space, scheduled for delivery in 2027, and will enable a reduction of emissions during navigation by up to 70%.

Also in January 2025, Nautor Swan and American Magic entered a partnership following the recently concluded collaboration between Bluegame and the America’s Cup. This agreement aims to revitalize Nautor Swan in its historic core market – the Americas.

In line with Sanlorenzo’s international positioning as a creator and promoter of the finest expressions of Italian culture, the renovation of Casa Sanlorenzo in Venice is nearing completion, with its inauguration scheduled for summer 2025. The venue will host Sanlorenzo Arts Venice, a hybrid space dedicated to culture and the arts, with the initiative aiming to contribute to a global cultural movement that fosters positive change in society for a more sustainable future.
