Sanlorenzo has taken another significant step in reducing its carbon footprint by partnering with Axpo Energy Solutions Italia (an Energy Service Company within the Axpo Group) to establish three new photovoltaic plants at the sites in Ameglia, La Spezia, and Viareggio.
With a total capacity of 1.5 MW, complementing the existing 500 kW at Sanlorenzo’s facilities, these new plants will lead to a reduction of over 600 tons of CO2 emissions per year. The group also plans to further increase the installed capacity to 3.1 MW by the end of 2024.
With sustainability firmly at the core of its growth strategy, Sanlorenzo consistently invests in innovation to minimise the environmental impact of its operations, from material selection to propulsion systems and manufacturing processes. The shipyard is managing the energy transition through strategic collaboration with global players who specialise in the development of energy efficiency, renewable projects, and electric mobility.
This project represents a strategic investment for the company. Ferruccio Rossi, Group General Manager & President Sanlorenzo Superyacht, explains: “The installation of photovoltaic plants in Ameglia, La Spezia, and Viareggio is a significant step forward in our decarbonisation journey. The transition to renewable energy underscores our commitment to reducing the environmental impact of production activities. By harnessing solar energy, we contribute to lowering greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable energy supply.
“For Sanlorenzo, this is a strategic investment aligning with the company’s social and environmental responsibility goals, demonstrating a long-term vision oriented towards sustainability.”
Sanlorenzo’s business philosophy and future vision of sustainable development are shared by Axpo and form the basis of this successful partnership. “Excellence and sustainability are principles that can help businesses appropriately address the challenges of the ecological transition,” comments Marco Garbero, General Manager of Axpo Energy Solutions Italia.
“We believe that the collaboration with Sanlorenzo is a tangible manifestation of this vision, showcasing the potential of the green economy as an opportunity to generate unprecedented synergies between companies in different sectors.
“We are pleased to accompany Sanlorenzo, a Made in Italy brand appreciated worldwide, on its journey towards increasingly integrated sustainability in products and processes, leveraging photovoltaic technology. As AESI, we aim to continue in this direction, promoting the adoption of renewable sources and energy efficiency as drivers for the development of the country’s system.”
Following a stellar reception at boot Dusseldorf 2024, the stunning 28-metre Sanlorenzo SL90A is on its way to the UK.
After arriving in Southampton, it will journey to London where it will become the first yacht from the shipyard to grace the river Thames before berthing at the historic St Katharine Docks.
While it’s based at this iconic maritime location, Sanloreno Yachts UK will be inviting prospective owners onboard for an exclusive tour of the magnificent SL90A. It’s a unique opportunity to experience the true meaning of customisation, underpinned by style and elegance.
Designed by Bernado Zuccon, this beautifully specified SL90A has been personalised with a light and modern interior using different wood, marble, and fabric textures, providing a subtle and dignified decor. And with four extremely well-appointed staterooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom, up to eight guests can be accommodated in refined comfort.
Taking its model name from its bold and innovative Asymmetric internal formation, the SL90A’s port side deck has been moved up a level to increase the yacht’s interior volume. With the saloon on the main deck now expanded by 10-15 per cent, it’s been possible to create a tangible connection with the sea through the floor to ceiling windows.
Equipped with powerful twin MAN 2000hp diesel engines a cruising speed of 25 knots is attainable, while a 1100nm range can be achieved when travelling at 10 knots (eco cruising speed).
Built by Sanlorenzo Yacht at its Ameglia base on the Ligurian coast of Italy, this tailor-made yacht breaks the mould compared to others in her class, while remaining under the important 24-metre hull length.
One of a kind, this yacht is available now.

Sanlorenzo and leading power solutions provider have announced a partnership to bring Volvo Penta’s IPS Professional Platform to two new Sanlorenzo yachts, the SX120 and the SX132.
Volvo Penta IPS Professional Platform is a first in the marine industry and an example of cutting-edge engineering, integrating seamlessly into Sanlorenzo’s visionary yacht design. The platform is the latest evolution in Volvo Penta’s fully integrated experience, from helm to propellers. Set up for the combined use of energy sources, from combustion engines using renewable fuels to fully electric or hybrid solutions, it ensures greater efficiency by optimising energy use in real time based on cruising needs.
The SX120 and the SX132 are expected to launch in 2025 and 2027 respectively and will be the first superyachts installed with the IPS Professional Platform.
“When adopting new solutions into superyachts, we must always consider the experience of owners and the captain,” says Johan Inden, President of Volvo Penta Marine. “The IPS Professional Platform not only delivers new levels of efficiency and flexibility but also elevates the yachting experience through the fully integrated helm-to-propeller platform. Intelligent features combined with the platform’s unique design provide additional comfort and peace of mind. Our collaboration with Sanlorenzo marks a new journey towards decarbonisation in the yachting sector. We’re excited to see the launch of the first IPS Professional Platform-equipped superyacht in 2025.”
Driving Industry Innovation and Transformation
This latest collaboration between Sanlorenzo and Volvo Penta symbolises an evolution in the companies’ ongoing journey together to drive transformation across the marine industry. The two companies will deliver a seamless onboard experience through increased precision and quieter operation. The unique and compact design of the IPS Professional platform frees up valuable onboard space and reduces perceived noise by up to 50%. Additionally, the forward-facing propeller design and efficient dual power input reduce vibration levels on board.
The Future of Sustainable Yachting
Both Sanlorenzo and Volvo Penta are committed to accelerating sustainability goals and the decarbonisation of the marine industry, with the companies are dedicated to exploring multiple solutions and paths including renewable fuels, hybrid and electric technology, fuel cells, and efficiency-driven innovations in yacht and propulsion design. The introduction of the IPS Professional Platform into Sanlorenzo’s tailor-made yachts is one of the latest efforts by Volvo Penta to integrate sustainability into a seamless experience.
Consistent with the course mapped out in its ‘Road to 2030’ strategy, Sanlorenzo has set the goal of launching the first 50 Steel equipped with a modular Reformer Fuel Cell system, capable of transforming green methanol into hydrogen and then into electricity to power all hotellerie equipment, and eventually recharge batteries, without the hydrogen being stored on board. By the end of the decade, Sanlorenzo aims to launch the first superyacht powered solely by green methanol.
Massimo Perotti, Executive Chairman of Sanlorenzo, comments: “The wishes of the customer have always been a fundamental part of Sanlorenzo’s philosophy. We begin at the intersection of technology and sustainability, combining the latest industry innovations with custom features and design that reflect the customer’s individual style. As the marine industry moves toward decarbonisation, we continue to pursue a premier experience that adheres to our vision of a sustainable future. Sanlorenzo is proud to produce the first custom yachts equipped with the all-new IPS Professional Platform and contribute to the journey of decarbonising the marine industry.”
From its yard in the Ligurian coastal town of Ameglia, Italian shipyard Sanlorenzo has launched a fully customised SL96A, the 29-metre asymmetric model from its popular SL Series.
Featuring a sleek GRP hull and superstructure with sweeping horizontal lines, the 100 GT yacht claims a beam of 6.67-metres and a draft of 1.9-metres, ensuring even the shallowest anchorages and harbours are accessible while providing luxurious accommodation for up to 10 guests.
With the build overseen by Nick Hatfield from Sanlorenzo’s UK representative, Sanlorenzo Yachts UK, this bespoke SL96A has been completely tailor-made to its new owner’s discerning tastes and exact requirements. And the level of personalisation goes far beyond changing the base design aesthetically with a different leather, wood finish or fabric.
“Building a Sanlorenzo takes time and passion, and we’ve worked closely with the owner to bring their dream yacht to life, ensuring every element reflects their preferences and practical mindset,” says Hatfield, Sales Manager at Sanlorenzo Yachts UK and Ireland.
“As with most customised builds, design and configuration of the main living areas took priority. Having chosen a five guest-cabin, three crew-cabin layout, one of the crew cabins can act as a guest cabin for kids if needed.
“This means the boat can function as a six guest-cabin boat if required, offering even greater flexibility for those onboard.”
All eight cabins have en-suite shower rooms and, adding to the sense of individuality, a private inner hallway leading to the owner’s cabin has been included. In addition, the flybridge features a custom dining table with a wrap-around sofa and cabinets handmade by Sanlorenzo in the main saloon.
“We started working on this build in the summer of 2022, with the only limitation being the hull shape and exterior profile,” continues Hatfield. “By the time the contract was signed, the owner of the SL96A had itemised 411 custom modifications outside the standard options list, and this number has now broken the 500, maybe even 600, barrier.
“The galley, specifically, was one area we developed very closely with the owner to ensure the space works seamlessly with their life onboard. The unique layout features a custom butterfly-wing serving hatch on the starboard side to allow food, drinks and empty plates to be passed between the galley and front-of-house crew quickly and efficiently.”
At Sanlorenzo, customisation is almost without limits. The owner of the SL96A says of his experience: “I honestly had no idea at the start of this project just how much customisation Sanlorenzo would offer. As just one example, most builders offer their interior furniture in a choice of three or four veneers with either a matt or gloss finish.
“When I asked Sanlorenzo for its menu, the answer was: ‘Any sustainably produced veneer available anywhere on the planet, with the grain direction at any angle and any degree of matt/gloss from 0% to 100% in 5% increments. Alternatively, any surface can be spray-painted in any colour or leather covered or mirrored along with any surface effect like fluting or fielding. And this applies to the ceilings as well as the walls and furniture’.”
A true example of customisation, this made-to-measure yacht will be delivered to the owner at the end of March 2024 in time for the season in the Mediterranean.
Sanlorenzo is set to unveil its new SP92 later this year at the Cannes Yachting Festival (10-15 September 2024).
Embodying Sanlorenzo’s ethos of combining sustainability, comfort and exclusivity, the SP92 is the second boat in the shipyard’s exciting SP line, which is designed for those seeking a combination of style and performance.
At 27.95-metres overall with a beam of 7.10-metres, this stunning next generation sports yacht boasts accommodation for six to eight guests and four crew.
Powered by twin MTU water jets, the SP92 delivers a smooth and efficient cruising experience for those wanting to maximise the enjoyment of their on-water lifestyle.
Sanlorenzo S.p.A. and Sawa S.r.l. have announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to evaluate possible joint strategic opportunities between Nautor Swan Group, owned by Sawa, and the Sanlorenzo Group.
“This transaction, if carried out, would allow Sanlorenzo to extend its presence into the high-end yachting industry, preserving Swan’s long-lasting expertise and experience, which provide Sanlorenzo with unique heritage,” says Massimo Perotti, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sanlorenzo.
“The combination of these brands within the same group would create a unique Maison of motor and sail yachts at the top-end of the nautical competitive landscape.”
Leonardo Ferragamo, Chairman of Nautor Swan, comments: “Swan has a legacy of globally unmatched product excellence in the high-end sailing yachting industry. A strategic partnership with Sanlorenzo Group would offer several opportunities to move forward on this virtuous path with joint investments in innovative technologies, in sustainability, and in a more extensive service network for our customers globally.
“A journey with one of the most qualified groups in the yachting arena that would further strengthen our long-term vision, preserving the unique values of the Swan brand.”

Sanlorenzo was founded in 1958 in Limite Sull’Arno, near Florence, Italy, by Gianfranco Cecchi and Giuliano Pecchia, before moving to Viareggio, Tuscany in 1972 when it was taken over by Giovanni Jannetti.
The founders envisioned creating high-quality, tailor-made yachts that reflected the elegance and sophistication of Italian design and craftsmanship.
Sanlorenzo has experienced steady growth over the years, establishing itself as one of the leading luxury yacht builders in the world. In the 1980s, the company expanded its production facilities and product range with the launch of the SL57 – the shipyard’s first-ever fibre-glass vessel.
During the 1990s, Sanlorenzo changed the superyacht landscape with the introduction of its SL100, while also becoming known for its innovative designs and customisation options, completely catering to the individual tastes and preferences of yacht owners.
To further expand its capabilities, in 1999 Sanlorenzo moved its operations to Ameglia inside a nature reserve in the province of La Spezia, in Liguria. That same year, the shipyard was certified UNI ENO ISO14001 to guarantee that its production processes respected the environment.
In 2005, the majority shareholding on the company was acquired by Massimo Perotti, who changed the name from Cantieri Navali Sanlorenzo Spa to Sanlorenzo Spa. Two years later, Sanlorenzo returned to Viareggio to establish a second shipyard for the creation of new product lines to complement the shipyards existing fleet, two of which (SD92 and 40 Alloy) were awarded the Show Boats Design Award and two World Superyacht Awards. In 2016, building on the success of the larger yachts in its range, the company opened the Sanlorenzo Superyacht shipyard in La Spezia, before being listed on the Milan Stock Exchange in 2018.
Salorenzo is now the leading single branded shipyard in yachts over 24-metres in the eminent Global Order Book ranking, maintaining a very strong presence in the luxury yacht market. The company has made an indelible mark on the world of yachting by consistently pushing the boundaries of design, technology, and customisation, and its commitment to craftsmanship and innovation has garnered acclaim, with the company receiving multiple awards and accolades for its yachts.
Always at the forefront of cutting-edge technology and design, Sanlorenzo has embraced advancements in materials, construction techniques, and onboard systems to enhance performance, comfort, and sustainability of its range of iconic luxury yachts and superyachts, including the SL, SD, and SX series detailed below:
Known for its contemporary design, the SL series offers a range of streamlined, elegant and well-balanced planing yachts. The range includes six models with lengths from 24 to 38 metres.
The semi-displacement models of Sanlorenzo’s SD fleet draw design inspiration from the trans-Atlantic liners of the 1930s, combining luxury with functionality and offering spacious interiors and versatile layouts.
From 28 to 38 metres in length and build in a composite material, the series provides and outstanding range to reach even the most faraway destinations.
Introduced more recently the SX series is a crossover between a flybridge yacht and explorer vessel, featuring innovative designs like the SX76 and SX88, with superstructures that reach forwards, and the beach areas with the proportions of a large terrace.
Sanlorenzo’s new Sport Yacht Series, the SP Line brings forth a new generation of yachts which break the mould, offering top performance while ensuring the highest efficiency and maximum comfort at all speeds.
The first model of the series, the SP110 is a project brought to fruition through the collaboration of experts with the highest level of individual skill: Bernardo Zuccon for the exterior, Tilli Antonelli of San Lorenzo Product Development, Marco Arnaboldi for the hull design and Piero Lissoni for the interior.
Over the years, Sanlorenzo has collaborated with renowned designers such as Chris Bangle (a renowned automotive designer), Spanish industrial designer Patricia Urquiola, and Italian interior designer Piero Lissoni, as well as architects like Luca Santella. Sanlorenzo also has a long-standing relationship with Zuccon International Project, a prestigious Italian architectural and design studio. This successful partnership has resulted in the creation of a new models showcasing a blend of elegance and functionality.
Through these unique collaborations, Sanlorenzo has set itself apart in the luxury yacht market with revolutionary designs. Favoured by many celebrities and high-profile individuals, notable past owners include Formula 1 driver Michael Schumacher and fashion designer John Galliano, which further contributes to the brand’s allure for ownership and charter.
Sanlorenzo continues to focus on innovation and has demonstrated a commitment to sustainability in its future projects. The company will continue to introduce new models with advanced technologies, improved efficiency, and eco-friendly features.
As an example, Sanlorenzo was recently awarded with approval certification by Lloyd’s Register for its Fuel Cell system and Type C containment tank, designed by the shipyard together with Siemens Energy.
The Lloyd’s Register certification validates the compliance of the methanol fuel cell system with internationally recognised environmental standards, consolidating its credibility on the market as well as confirming it meets the required safety standards.
This innovative solution will debut on Sanlorenzo’s new 50Steel, with the vessel from the line due for delivery in the summer of 2024. The methanol fuel cell system will allow the vessel to generate electricity for on-board hotel services, with the engines and generators switched off, significantly extending the time spent at anchor and manoeuvring without consuming diesel fuel.
The brand’s legacy is characterised by its dedication to a relentless pursuit of excellence, ensuring that Sanlorenzo remains a prominent name in the luxury yacht industry. The company’s ability to adapt to changing market trends while maintaining its core values contributes to its enduring success.
