Sanlorenzo has launched its first 57Steel superyacht in La Spezia. The launch of this model marks a very important date in the ongoing growth of the Sanlorenzo’s Superyacht Division.  This first example is 56.50 meters in length with five decks and a tonnage of 1050 GT. A prototype of the line, it will be delivered to its owner at the beginning of 2023.

In terms of design, Sanlorenzo’s new addition was overseen by Bernardo Zuccon, studio Zuccon International Project. This is the first time he has designed the exterior lines of a superyacht of this size.

“The 57 Steel is an ambitious project behind which there has been an intense amount of typological research. This very important study has been at the centre of Zuccon International Project’s development since the beginning of its collaboration with Sanlorenzo. The aim was to create a craft of around 1050 GT with functional and lifestyle features that are normally found on boats of a larger size. From a design point of view, the most important challenge was to find the right balance between the volume and proportions of the boat. The external lines have a defined and extremely fluid progression in which the yard’s language shines through. We can define 57Steel as “a skillful play of balance between content and container.”

Bernardo Zuccon, Zuccon International Project

sanlorenzo superyacht 57steel

This new superyacht allows for indoor and outdoor spaces that are decidedly out of the ordinary and revises the different functions of on-board spaces in a new way. In fact, the layout of the 57Steel alters the traditional balance whereby the wheelhouse, which is normally located at the bow of the upper deck, is relocated to another deck – the bridge deck typical of larger yachts. This offers the possibility of using the upper deck differently. It is here that we find the owner’s cabin overlooking the large Owner’s deck, a private space that guarantees an exclusive view of the sea.

Thanks to the unusual layout, a large full-beam VIP cabin, which can be used as a second owner’s cabin, has also been placed forward on the main deck. This large aft area includes a swimming pool with a transparent bottom that allows light to filter into the beach area below. The beach area can be further extended towards the water thanks to the folding terraces.

Designed by Studio Vickers of London, the interiors were created by working closely with the client. This made it possible to create warm and cosy environments that perfectly meet the ideas and wishes of the owner.

”We were tasked with creating a warm, detailed and inviting interior for an experienced owner and his family aboard this 57-metre steel Sanlorenzo. The design process was a huge creative pleasure and the shipyard team responded really well to our design direction, producing a wonderful interior. We were excellently supported by West Nautical’s management and construction team, who were extremely professional. We have worked with Sanlorenzo before and know the care and attention to detail, but on this yacht, it was exceptional.”

Sanlorenzo Superyachts at Monaco Yacht Show 2022

Staged from 28 September to 1 October at Port Hercules, the Monaco Yacht Show sees Sanlorenzo’s Superyacht Division exhibit among industry leaders with two of the most successful models in its Superyacht fleet: 62Steel and Alloy. Sanlorenzo also celebrates the sale of its new flagship, the 73Steel, scheduled for delivery to an existing Sanlorenzo owner in 2026. Bluegame’s BG72 and BG42 are also at the show.

Sanlorenzo 62Steel

With its five decks and a gross tonnage of 1350 tonnes, the Sanlorenzo 62Steel is one of the most esteemed superyachts in the entire industry.

An impressive five-deck metal superyacht, first unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show in 2021, the 62Steel boasts interior spaces that ensure maximum comfort for all guests. The special feature of this model is encapsulated in the owner’s suite area, an airy space located on the upper deck that offers a breathtaking panoramic view and is connected to an outdoor bow area of over 140 square metres: an entire deck for the exclusive use of the owner. 62Steel is as much about privacy as it is about conviviality, with the main deck area divided between the saloon and dining room and opening outwards onto the large pool with its transparent floor that becomes a sunbathing area when required. Four units of this metal giant have been sold to date, the third of which is scheduled for delivery in early 2023. The fourth unit, the project will grow to a length of 64 metres and will be renamed 64Steel.

Sanlorenzo Alloy

Another proud representative of the brand’s values around the world, winner of the World Superyacht Awards 2022, and World Premiering at the show: the Sanlorenzo Alloy.

A fast-displacement model measuring 44.5 metres in length and made entirely of aluminium, Sanlorenzo Alloy is the perfect synthesis of the typological experimentation that the shipyard has been pursuing for years to bring new points of view on board, exploring ever new scenarios to offer owners and their guests. With a layout that moves away from the traditional layout of spaces to take the concept of liveability to the maximum, Alloy is a superyacht that opens up to the seascape by offering surprising spaces to be experienced both inside and outside. These include the owner’s cabin conceived as a private apartment of 147 square metres and organised on three levels connected to each other, with an indoor and an outdoor area.

The collaboration between the Sanlorenzo team and Bernardo Zuccon, who was responsible for the exterior design, made it possible to conceptualise, design and build a three-deck yacht that maintains sleek, essential lines and at the same time offers megayacht solutions thanks to its large volumes, in fact the GT are 490, the success of which is testified by the ten units sold to date.

Sanlorenzo to Build the New 73 Steel Superyacht

Sanlorenzo Superyacht Division is awarded contract to build the fleet’s new flagship, the 73Steel

Sanlorenzo’s sustained growth continues, once again confirming its undisputed leadership in the steel superyacht sector with a significant new sale.

Sanlorenzo’s Superyacht Division, recently sold the largest superyacht ever built by the yard, the 73Steel. Nine steel vessels have now been sold in 2022, increasing the 23-strong fleet of 44-73m superyachts currently under construction.

Sanlorenzo Steel

This new steel giant will have an overall length of 73 metres. An innovative diesel-electric propulsion system aimed at minimising emissions, and a completely unconventional layout will take the connection between interior, exterior and nature to a level not seen before. The exterior lines will, once again, be created by the Zuccon International Project studio, while the décor promises to be innovative and revolutionary.

“The design of the new 73Steel represents a fascinating new chapter in the yard’s history, not only because of its size, which is currently the largest ever built, but also because it is a testament to how strongly the company believes in the evolution and importance of a complex market such as the superyacht market.

The BGM75 benefits from increased stability, large volumes, and reduced fuel consumption, demonstrating the yard’s capacity for sustainable design. The ultra-efficient hull is derived from the America’s Cup. Designed by Philippe Briand, a world-renowned expert in the design of performance hulls, optimisation of the Volvo IPS propulsion system means 50% less power is required than mono hull vessels of the same volume.

Carbon in the hulls and the use of lightweight materials for all non-structural parts including furnishing components, also contribute to an impressive reduction in fuel consumption. An additional detail in sustainability is the production of 5kW of green energy, guaranteed by 56 solar panels that can be installed on the deckhouse.

As designers, we ca be nothing but proud, once again, to participate in this new adventure, basing our project research on the development of a design that, despite the large volumes available, is able to convey a principle of extreme dynamism, sportiness and contemporaneity. It is exactly this subtle dialogue between the search for a strong stylistic identity and a constant inspiration to stylistic features now consolidated within the brand’s DNA, that is the perfect interpretative key to this project.

Each line has been sculpted to emphasise the tension and plasticity of the forms, which seem to be in constant motion, without pause, modifying and adapting themselves with the aim of creating the perfect dialogue between interior and exterior spaces; a dynamic and incessant rhythm that aims at a formal evolvement able to reconstruct every time and in every detail that powerful identifiable language that has always characterised Sanlorenzo products.”

Bernardo Zuccon, Studio Zuccon International Project

73Steel will be designed to create the most intense interaction between ocean and nature on board at multiple levels. This visionary design project perfectly balances form and function, innovation and technology, once again bringing something surprisingly unprecedented on board.

The focus on maximum comfort combined with meticulous attention to aesthetics will create spaces in which family intimacy and privacy will be at the heart of this unparalleled superyacht.

Bluegame is always one wake ahead, actually two

Sanlorenzo’s Ameglia shipyard enters the multihull segment with the build of the new BGM75. This groundbreaking vessel looks to the future; a platform for innovation that confirms the yard’s leadership in sustainability.

Something new is in the air, or rather in the water. But just what is it?

It is the new Bluegame, shrouded in mystery and ready to break the rules.

Bluegame BGM75

The BGM75 is the first model in the new BGM range, launching Bluegame into the multihull market. Far removed from conventional multihulls currently on the market, it could be said that Bluegame has created a new segment.

The BGM75, consistent with Sanlorenzo Group’s positioning, is first and foremost a luxurious, beautiful motor yacht that “by chance” has not one hull, but two. Not even considering this new feature can it actually be compared to any existing catamaran on the market; the length-to-width ratio, layout, full-beam owner’s cabin, reduced space required for mooring in the marina, and the cushioned perception of movement at sea, brings it closer to a monohull yacht.

The BGM75 benefits from increased stability, large volumes, and reduced fuel consumption, demonstrating the yard’s capacity for sustainable design. Bernardo Zuccon and Piero Lissoni, tried and tested collaborators of the brand, have fully grasped the power of such an avant-garde project, giving a “futuristic” contribution to the external lines and a smart use of the interior volumes; one forgets that they are distributed over two separate hulls.

Always of the moment, maximum comfort, refinement and distinctive liveability are the hallmarks of all Bluegame models.

Sanlorenzo at the 62nd Genoa Boat Show

Alongside the most emblematic examples of the fleet will also be the shipyard’s latest 2022 models.

Sanlorenzo is back in the spotlight at the 62nd Genoa Boat Show, one of the most important events in the sector, which this year is scheduled to take place from 22nd to 27th September 2022. At the Ligurian kermesse the shipyard will be showcasing a fleet of more than 10 vessels, including two new models, presented at the Cannes Yachting Festival and making their debut in Italy, born from the company’s responsible approach: SD90 and SP110.

In an ongoing quest for a greener and more conscientious future, Sanlorenzo presents two extremely innovative boats, the result of an extensive study of solutions aimed at reducing consumption and minimising environmental impact as much as possible through the use of recycled materials, while never losing sight of the exclusivity of the products made and the importance of the experience on the open sea.

To express an intention to view, please fill out the form below or contact us now.

SD90 is the entry-level of the semi-displacement navette range that bears the signature of Zuccon International Project for the exterior design and Patricia Urquiola for the interior. The third chapter in a success story that began with the SD96 and SD118, the SD90 is a project that focuses on transversal technological efficiency, both in terms of the hull, developed in collaboration with Philippe Briand, and in terms of the research into materials.

Structured over two and a half decks, the SD90 features an open fly bridge, lower deck and main deck. The layout is designed to guarantee maximum liveability on board, as can be seen from the new features introduced both externally and internally that give a totally new perception of space compared to the other navettes in the same range.

The SD90’s interiors are designed by Patricia Urquiola with an approach based on three main concepts: transformability, connection with the sea and circularity of materials. The flexibility of the SD90’s interiors allows the boat to adapt to the different needs of those who will live in it, evolving and transforming itself through novel solutions of furnishings and configurations. The spaces are permeated by a style strongly evocative of the marine world, which in every detail seeks the maximum connection between interior and exterior, and great care was taken in the design to research and use raw materials from alternative sources.

Pursuing research into the development of low environmental impact technologies but never neglecting the importance of the driving and sailing experience, Sanlorenzo presents the SP110. The shipyard’s first open coupé, opening the door to the world of sports yachts, the SP110 is part of the “Smart Performance” range that combines innovation and sustainability with a design that favours maximum comfort.

SP110 is a project, born from Tilli Antonelli’s experience, which aims to guarantee the highest performance with the maximum energy efficiency, thanks to the use of fractional motorisation, the development of a hull optimised for hydrojet propulsion and the use of lightweight materials. The exteriors designed by Bernardo Zuccon render tangible from the very first glance the strongly emotional character of this vessel which combines attention to sustainability with unparalleled liveability.

The interiors designed by Piero Lissoni are characterised by decidedly unexpected spaces and are arranged on two levels that are not separated from each other, creating a “vertical loft” that facilitates and simplifies conviviality, for an interior and exterior liveability that is unequalled on a boat of this type. The layout is totally unique, consisting of large areas that can be utilised in a variety of ways, and is characterised by a minimalism that perfectly embraces the overall design philosophy of the SP110 and embodies Sanlorenzo’s vision in which the founding principles of sustainability, comfort and exclusivity converge.

Completing the fleet on view in Genoa will be nine examples representing the technological innovation, tailor-made approach and tradition that have always strongly distinguished Sanlorenzo yachts.

  • SL78 and SL86 are part of the planing range in which elegant, balanced lines complement the innovations introduced on board.
  • SL90A, SL96A, SL106A and SL120A interpret the concept of asymmetry developed by the shipyard, the introduction of a layout that breaks all conventions to revolutionise the concept of liveability on board.
  • SD96, the semi-displacement navetta that offers unexpected space compared to boats of the same size and an incomparable balance between design and volume.
  • SX76 and SX88 are the shipyard’s crossover models in which the main deck is conceived as a single, continuous environment from stern to bow. The wide-open spaces and large glass surfaces create a perfect dialogue between interior and exterior.

Italian motor yacht brands are challenging high-end British shipyards

The superyacht and high-end motor yacht market is growing, especially in the sub 30m category and, according to the recent Global Order Book, Italian shipyards are leading the way by generating the greatest volume of yacht sales by unit globally. Nick Hatfield, Sales Manager at Sanlorenzo Yachts UK and Ireland, explains why the Italians are set to give the British motorboat manufacturers a run for their money in the UK.

Customisation

As with most things Italian, their yachts are sleek, stylish and with uncompromising attention to detail – think Ferrari, Gucci and Bulgari for inspiration. The exclusive Italian motor yacht brands, such as Sanlorenzo and Bluegame, deliver these qualities with a point of difference: customisation.

“As the motoryacht market developed, everything started to look the same,” says Nick. “Manufacturers were using the same person to design the boat, its hull and the interior. Designers were creating fabulous interiors for villas and apartments which are much more suited to the task, but the boating industry wasn’t using them at that time.

“Sanlorenzo was the first brand to really tailor make a yacht in terms of customisation. It looked outside the industry for specialist talent and brought in big-name designers. The idea was that if someone was renovating their home, the designers could understand their preferences and translate these into the interior of their yacht.”

Sanlorenzo yacht 120SL - Interior view

Tailor Made

Many boating brands, including British builders, have followed suit and offer basic customisation for their clients, but the Italian brands have raised the game further.

“There are different levels of customisation,” Nick explains. “When buying a suit, you can walk into a shop and pick a suit off the shelf which will fit perfectly adequately. You could then take that suit to a tailor, who’d modify it to fit better. This is basic customisation and is what customisation means for many motorboat manufacturers; you take the base design and ‘customise’ it aesthetically with a different leather or wood finish.

“Alternatively, you could visit a tailor who starts with a piece of material. Everything is then made to measure for you, to your exact requirements. This is what Sanlorenzo and Bluegame offer as standard when they say ‘customisation.’

“We start with a hull, which is characteristically Sanlorenzo, but interior wise, it’s completely tailor-made. We bring in designers from all over the world, ensuring that fixtures, fittings and fabrics are all exactly what and where the client wishes. If they don’t like the galley location for example, we move it!”

However, this doesn’t apply to the exterior aesthetic: “Having spent a lot of time designing a boat that is classically beautiful with its iconic windows, providing a look not seen on any other vessel, Sanlorenzo understandably doesn’t want to play around with the external design,” explains Nick.

Having a tailor-made yacht does come at a premium cost, but many clients are willing to pay extra to get exactly what they want and to have a yacht which is truly unique to them.

Attention to Detail

The attention to detail that these brands offer is also catching the eye of potential owners in the UK.

One UK owner who purchased a Sanlorenzo last year says: “I have a yacht which is completely tailored to me, and I can’t begin to say how impressed I am with the attention to detail onboard. The ugly air intakes on the sides have been cleverly hidden, and the join where the hull and the deck meet aren’t visible, giving a beautifully clean hull.”

“It’s also a very quiet yacht – the level of consideration that’s gone into the removal of sound and vibration is second to none, with all rails and metalwork mounted on anti-vibration pads. This isn’t something I’ve experienced on my previous boats from a British manufacturer.”

Growing UK Market

But it’s not just Sanlorenzo making strides in the UK market; a brand new Bluegame BGX60 has just arrived in the UK. Boasting features not previously seen on this type of craft, it was chosen for its alternative approach to boat design, and it certainly turned heads at the recent British Motor Yacht Show.

“It seems that 60ft flybridge motorboats predominantly have the same layout across the brands. Designs haven’t changed for 20 years,” says the new owner, Mr Jones. “I wanted something different. The design of the Bluegame is both disruptive and innovative, providing a multifunctional layout and unprecedented space. The high level of standard specification, combined with robust engineering and redundancy normally associated with bluewater cruising yachts, really makes Bluegame stand head and shoulders above the norm.”

Nick continues: “Previously, Italian brands relied on selling to British owners through their Mediterranean dealer network. But as demand for larger motor yachts increases in the UK, Italian brands are opening local offices, offering services and support for their yachts to make them more attractive than before.”

With growing representation in the UK and a hunger to offer a point of difference, the Italian brands are certainly turning heads and making a significant impression on the market.

Bluegame

Bluegame, the Sanlorenzo Group brand, and New York Yacht Club American Magic, challenger for the 37th America’s Cup to be held in Barcelona in 2024, have signed an agreement for the design and construction of the team’s hydrogen-powered chase boat.

This is an enormously proud moment for Bluegame after accepting the highly complex design and technical challenge. For the first time, the 37th America’s Cup protocol requires each challenging team to build and operate two hydrogen-powered foiling chase boats that must be a minimum of 10 metres in length, reach a maximum speed of 50 knots, and have a range of 180 miles.

To ensure the project’s success, Bluegame has built an exceptional team with previous America’s Cup design experience. As a result, they possess the best possible know-how in structures, composites, foil design, and the software that controls the flight-height of these highly sophisticated foiling boats.

The boat’s propulsion system is powered by hydrogen, an innovative concept in boating and a first for Bluegame. However, less than a year ago, Bluegame’s parent company, Sanlorenzo, signed a strategic agreement with Siemens Energy to build the first 50-metre superyacht with electricity generated from hydrogen fuel cells, which will be launched in 2024. This extraordinary double milestone unquestionably confirms Sanlorenzo as the pioneering brand in technological and sustainable innovation.

The America’s Cup, the pinnacle competition in yachting, was first contested in 1851, making it the oldest trophy in international sport. It even predates the modern Olympic Games by 45 years. America’s Cup match races are fought between two sailing yachts: one from the yacht club that currently holds the trophy (known as the defender) and the other from the yacht club that is challenging for the cup (the challenger).

New York Yacht Club’s America’s Cup history stretches back to the inaugural race, which they won, before retaining the America’s Cup for 132 years, the longest winning series in the history of sport. New York Yacht Club and American Magic first partnered in 2018, and the 37th America’s Cup will be their second challenge.

Luca Santella, head of product strategy of Bluegame, comments:

“I can hardly contain the emotion that arises from the recognition of Bluegame’s design value, from the confirmation of the unconventional DNA of the brand, and the fascination exercised by this legendary competition on a former professional sailor like I was.”

Tyson Lamond, chief operations officer of American Magic, explains further:

“Bluegame is the perfect partner on this project, and we’re very excited to be at the forefront of innovation. We are optimistic that hydrogen-powered boats and the production of cleaner, more environmentally friendly technology will become a sustainable solution for the wider marine industry.”

New Models for 2022 Unveiled

Sanlorenzo has announced two new yachts to be unveiled at this year’s September boat shows: the semi-displacement SD90/s and the sport yacht SP110.

SD90

The entry-level model of Sanlorenzo’s revamped semi-displacement range, the SD90/s is the third chapter in a success story that began with the SD96 and SD118. With this new configuration, Sanlorenzo introduces a series of innovative features conceived from ongoing stylistic and technological research, including hybrid propulsion.

The SD90/s represents a greener proposition thanks to materials from alternative sources and a “sustainable hybrid” propulsion system developed in collaboration with Siemens. Zuccon International Project designed the SD90’s exterior lines, and Patricia Urquiola designed the interior.

SP110

As a result of thorough research, and development of low environmental impact technologies, without overlooking the importance of the yacht’s driving experience, Sanlorenzo has designed the new SP110 model. This advanced, progressive, and revolutionary yacht opens up a new division in the yachting sector, combining environmental awareness with unique comfort and unparalleled performance.

Sanlorenzo’s SP110 project aims to write a new success story and position the yard within the sports yachts world with a concept that breaks the mould. The SP110 represents a technological platform that combines innovation and sustainability with a design that maximises comfort.

This project was made possible by a collaboration between Sanlorenzo’s product development manager, Tilli Antonelli, and highly skilled industry professionals: Bernardo Zuccon for the exteriors, Marco Arnaboldi for the hull design, and Piero Lissoni for the interiors.

Sanlorenzo Wins at World Superyacht Awards

Due to its captivating aesthetics and innovative architectural layout, the Sanlorenzo Alloy superyacht has won the best ‘Semi-displacement or Planing Motor Yacht, 40m and Above’ category at the World Superyacht Awards 2022.

Internationally recognised as a nautical atelier, Sanlorenzo is the world’s first mono-brand shipyard producing custom-designed and custom-built yachts and superyachts. These vessels possess an expression of refined luxury combined with advanced technology and the utmost attention to detail and craftsmanship.

The culmination of an experimental typology, developed over the years through collaboration with Zuccon International Project for the exterior and Christian Liaigre for the interior, Sanlorenzo explores new scenarios and offers owners and guests new perspectives onboard.

Sanlorenzo ALLOY is a 44.5 metre fast-displacement model built entirely in aluminium with a layout that moves away from a traditional arrangement to enhance life onboard. The owner’s cabin is the crown of this innovative approach; it is conceived as a 147 m2 private apartment and organised over three interconnected levels, with indoor and outdoor areas.

This superyacht opens out to the seascape by offering astonishing indoor and outdoor spaces. The 83 m2 sun deck provides multiple options for relaxation and socialising, and the large 102 m2 beach club opens on three sides, allowing full connection with the sea.

The collaboration between the Sanlorenzo team and Bernardo Zuccon, who oversaw the design of the exterior lines, made it possible to conceive, design and build a 490 GT three-deck yacht that retains sleek, core lines but at the same time offers megayacht solutions.

Sanlorenzo’s ability to give new meaning to nautical design, give life to bespoke projects, and realise the client’s specific needs, continues to reward Sanlorenzo with new successes at an international level.
